”We have worked with Fitzsimons on various projects now, two spring to mind; the creation of the first MGallery hotel in the UK in Bath and also the disaster recovery following our flooded Hotel in Boxhill.

The MGallery project was managed extremely effectively, under tight time constraints and difficult site measures, they ensured the building works and FFE all coincided with the overall programme with effective results. The flood of 2013 took out the majority of our hotel, which resulted in a closure.

Fitzsimons got the hotel back up and running in extremely quick timescales ensuring quality and cost were managed, they also managed the whole buildings claim process with insurers who were also impressed with the results."

Kennedy Wilson hired Fitzsimons as Project & Cost Managers and Principal Designers for a series of recent [capital expenditure/improvement] projects at the Fairmont St Andrews hotel. We found Fitzsimons to be consistently diligent, organized, accurate, and cost-conscious on each project. 

As an owner who were investing significant capital into our property, it was reassuring that our interests were well looked after. This was the case whether it was a larger project or smaller project - each was treated equally. Although it was our money at stake, Fitzsimons probably did a better job fighting in our corner than we ever could have.

Despite several challenges and curveballs over a two-year period, the projects were finished [largely] within forecasted timelines and, most importantly, below budget. Because the hotel was kept open for business during these multi-phased refurb works it added an additional layer of complexity. Fortunately, the programme was expertly planned and allowed the hotel’s five-star service offering to remain uncompromised. 

Finally, and not to be overlooked, was Fitzsimons’s capability to manage the entire project team, including the hotel management & brand representatives, architects, designers, landscape architects, plus a demanding owner (us). What must have quietly been a tall task to keep such a varied group focused was handled quite smoothly. 

In fact, a lot of this is probably down to the outstanding levels of communication, which involved information, education, and debate as necessary.  

The resultant success of the projects has garnered numerous positive comments – from within Kennedy Wilson as well as from the hotel and its patrons.

I have been involved in two hotel reinstatement projects on behalf of insurers where Greig Hanley of Fitzsimons was appointed as the lead consultant/project manager. Both incidents involved wet perils in hotels. 

One was a flood and multi million in value, the other followed an escape of water from a defective pipe. There was the need to properly oversee the remedial works as expeditiously as possible in order to mitigate the loss of revenue as a consequence of the damage. This required a proactive, competent approach to the projects which Greig and his team provided throughout.
